Rescuing Mondays – Part 1

Rescuing Mondays – Part 1

Hey Entrepreneurs! Do you hate Mondays? No one hated Mondays more than me. When you worked for someone else, did you hate Mondays too? I used to start feeling Monday creep in around 3pm on Sundays. I would look at the clock and do the math. I only have about four hours left of my day off. I would lament the curse of disappearing weekends. Where did they go and why did they go by so fast?

I have some eye-opening news for you. We are the reason Mondays suck. It’s our fault.

 It’s time to rescue Mondays.

 Why do we hate Mondays?

To most of us Mondays mean the end of relaxation, family time, cookouts, and the beach. At least that is what we tell ourselves. Part of the reason we hate Mondays is because we hate our jobs. Or strongly dislike them. Hate is a strong word – why do we strongly dislike our jobs? That is a bigger picture question, but it stems from the fact that many of us are not working in a profession that is compatible with the pursuit of our life purpose. This incompatibility makes us feel trapped or caged.

In addition to ending the fun, Mondays can be full of Social Jetlag. Here is a helpful hint: Go. To. Bed. Be in bed at a reasonable hour on Sundays. If you’re not tired, just read. A book, not the internet. If you do not prioritize your Sunday bedtime, you are purposely sabotaging your own Monday. Congratulations, you are officially your own worst enemy.

 Back to Mondays…

We are responsible for our time, even if we work for someone else. Over the course of our day, we choose what we need to do or how we go about doing it. Regardless of who provides our direction, we choose how to approach the work and the attitude with which we do it. Let’s examine who is responsible for miserable Mondays. Us. We are.

We burden Mondays with all the undone tasks from the previous week. Or flood Mondays with unrealistic or artificial deadlines to feel or look productive. Mondays are always busy or chaotic, or that is the lie we tell ourselves. Plenty of busy people get fired or laid off.

So, we must ask the question: Why are there undone tasks? It is likely because we didn’t plan, organize, delegate, and/or focus the previous week. We probably wasted a lot of time doing unproductive things last week. And the week before that. The tasks we don’t want to do often become a pain in our necks because what you resist, persists

As an entrepreneur, you are in charge of your time. So why do you continue to make Mondays suck? Take your weekly tasks for the week and set realistic deadlines. Not artificial deadlines.

To have the most productive day possible, I have a few scheduling tips:

  • ·         3 Work blocks

  • ·         Health time

  • ·         Project work time

  • ·         Sword sharpening time

  • ·         Off time

In our next blog, I will provide explanations for these tips and how to use them to be the most effective version of yourself. If you cannot wait to learn more, contact me and we can discuss how to rescue your Monday.
